Duke and I entered the south gate of campus. Since the rest of our team was still on their way to meet us, we found a seat a inside the entrance and waited. A group of students was already there, talking amongst themselves in a clump, not moving any further into the campus. “I wonder what they’re waiting for?” Duke said to me, and we soon found out. They came over to us, all asking, “Can I take a picture of you?”
Suddenly we were surrounded by about a dozen Asian students and their camera phones. We took pictures with them individually, in groups, and in pairs, hearing comments like:
“You are so beautiful!”
“Can I have your phone number?”
“Are you from America?”
It was so unexpected and so funny! What’s more, we got their phone numbers and are planning on meeting with a few of them later in the week! What crazy ways God provides. What a great way to start out the day!
Guess what? We finally got an apartment! Thank you for all your thoughts about the frustrating process we went through. We are now busy making friends and meeting up with them – it’s good finally being on a normal schedule. I am also getting more used to the culture, which makes me less frustrated during the day. I have started my language class, and I think it is going to be tough but good. My body is now adjusted to the altitude and I don’t get dizzy anymore – praise the Lord! I’m more used to the food now too. Things are turning up!
Thanks for talking to God about me! Right now, my roommate and I are getting closer. We just met about six weeks ago, and we’re going to work together all year. We’re still getting to know each other, and I really want to become good friends with her. So if you could talk to God about that, it would be fantastic! He’s continuing to teach me how to depend on His strength instead of my own, and I’m trying to learn. This year’s going to be a great adventure.
Have a fabulous week!
